Charlottesville–Right Now: United Way wants child care scholarship funds restored

Jon Nafzinger with the United Way joins Coy Barefoot on the July 5 edition of WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now. The vice president of the Thomas Jefferson Area branch says he wishes the state government had funded the group’s Child Care Scholarships. The programs pay for daycare and babysitting for low-income workers, but state money was cut in this year’s budget. Governor Kaine submitted funds as part of his budget amendments, but those changes were not approved by the House of Delegates.
Coy’s guest on a show coming up later this week is Delegate Steve Landes, who voted to cut the funding.
