Gregory B. Saathoff, M.D., a University of Virginia psychiatrist and director of the Critical Incident Analysis Group (CIAG), is a principal author of the 1999 study for the FBI, “The School Shooter: A Threat Assessment Perspective,” which can be downloaded from the FBI web site. Richard J. Bonnie, director of the Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy at the University of Virginia, is the chair of the Commission on Mental Health Law Reform, which is addressing how the mental health and criminal justice systems intersect. Alison Malmon is executive director of Active Minds, Inc., the nation’s only nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging young adults in mental health awareness, and is working to combat the stigma of mental illness.
