Today on Home Grown, Leslie talks to two musicians who are showing different musical sides of themselves. First, singer-songwriter Wendy Repass sets down her guitar and sets up her turntables as she prepares to DJ Women’s Dance Cville at the Ix Art Park. Wendy talks about the idea behind a Women’s Dance, what led to it, and the challeges of being a DJ. Next, guitar man Greg Brown returns to the show. Recently Greg has dusted off his Metal persona, Age of Fire, and has released a CD, Obisian Dreams. Leslie talks to Greg about the switch from Classical to Metal as we listen to a couple of tracks. Home Grown: Your Show about Local Art

Today on Home Grown, it’s week three of David stuck in the clutches of his day job. So, in his absence, Leslie welcomes back two former guests to the show. First, expressionist painter Adam Disbrow makes his second appearance on Home Grown. He’s got a new show called UTOPIA: New Works by Adam Disbrow going up at Mudhouse for this month’s First Fridays. Adam is a great artist to talk to, and the discussion very quickly dives down to his thoughts on “the stages of creation.” He also talks about UTOPIA — about the show, about the piece that shares the show’s name, and about the show’s other pieces. Then the only thing that can raise our spiris from having to say goodbye to Adam is to say hello again to guitarist Greg Brown. His new album Greg C. Brown drops August 10. Greg talks about the diverse range of original songs on the album, spanning a number of years. He also performs a song from the album live for us. Home Grown: Passion: Greg Brown & Bobby Palamino and a New Alex Citron Play

Home Grown: Your Show about Local Art

Today on Home Grown, David and Leslie re-form the Raucous Cacus of Sunday Morning Radio and welcome two pairs of great guests. First, show favorite Greg Brown returns and brings with him Bobby Palamino. Newly transplanted to town for NYC, Bobby helped form the mid-60s group The Teemates and has been playing for 55 years. He and Greg talk about that and about their upcoming benefit concert for Union Ridge Baptist Church. Next theater artist Alex Citron comes on the show wearing his playwright hat to talk about his new play Stolen Moon at the Belmont Arts Collaborative Theater. He and his director, Eric Hart talk about their working relationship and prompts David to muse about how “life transfuses into art.” It’s something old and something new (and when people bust on Black Panter, David and Leslie get the Blues) on Home Grown: Your Show about Local Art.

Today on Home Grown, our man Greg Brown returns and brings the guitar phatness!. He’s got so many irons in the fire we almost confused him for a blacksmith. We take the entire hour to talk about a bunch of his projects — everything from his previous post-cancer rock project Chemobrain to his classical CD Wanderings that he releases 11/17/17 to January’s Chemobrain follow up Another Dose to next year’s thrash metal project Age of Fire. We talk about Greg’s creative process, his inspriations, his multiple genre personality, and more. On top of it all, we play tracks from many of his projects, and even have Greg playing live. Then it’s way too little time as one of Home Grown’s favorite guests, guitarist Greg Brown returns to play some tunes and talk about his new Blues CD Just Tell Me Why. Scott Jones and David Vaughn Straughn talk to Kyle Christopher, managing director of Phoenix Theatre Works about Charlottesville’s newest theater, guitarist, Greg Brown joins us to talk about his upcoming CD, Just Tell Me Why. and Edward Warwick White from Four County Players talks about Central VA’s oldest community theater, specifically about their current sell-out show, Chicago, and their next season.
