This week Sunday Morning Wake-up Call host Sean McCord talks with Cady Garey about melding an arts background into an academic career. Cady also talks about her time as Tina Fey’s college roommate, and how she ended up inspiring one of the main characters in Tina’s first film, Mean Girls.

Cady Garey is a lecturer in the UVA Drama department as well as a UVA Drama graduate. She was featured in a recent UVA Today article spotlighting her work of using improvisational theater techniques to help commerce students respond effectively in ethically challenging business situations.

This week WPVC’s Sunday Morning Wake-up Call host Sean McCord stands in for Rick Moore. In this episode, Sean talks with the University of Virginia’s Robert Chapel about his direction of “Our Town”.

Robert Chapel is professor of Drama and former chair (1990-2005) of the University of Virginia’s Department of Drama. He has been with the Heritage Theater since 1987, first as a stage director, then as managing and stage director and, since 1995, as its producing artistic director. Bob also chaired the Virginia 2020 Commission on the Fine and Performing Arts. In addition, he has served as executive director of the Virginia Film Festival. Bob is currently directing his last play at UVA before retiring, Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, which concludes with a 2:00 p.m. matinee today.

On the inaugural episode of the Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call on WPVC, outgoing Charlottesville City Councilor and Vice-Mayor Dede Smith talks about her journey as an elected official, what she learned while serving, and her advice to incoming councilors. This week’s program is hosted by long time Wake-up Call producer Sean McCord who will host the show once per month. Wake-up Call mainstay Rick Moore returns to the program next Sunday.
