Thankfully no lives were lost as the building on U.S. 29 was destroyed Saturday evening, but Chief Werner is all about safety first and has advice for handling such emergency situations. Former Democratic State Senator Criegh Deeds announced today that he will run for re-election despite his defeat in the gubernatorial race last November to Bob McDonnell, and Holsworth isn’t quite sure it’s the right move. Also, Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli had kind words for a recent EPA decision, but will the romance last? President Obama issued a 7 year halt on east-coast off-shore drilling last week, but will complaints from Democratic Senators Webb and Warner have any effect? 12.3.10 Newly appointed Charlottesville City Manager Maurice Jones joins Coy live from the 22nd annual Toy Lift at Fashion Square Mall. You can now remove the “interim” from his title, as the Charlottesville City Council announced Friday morning that Mr. Jones has been officially named the new City Manager. Formal approval of the appointment will take place in a special session Monday morning, and in today’s conversation the man of the hour explains the entire process- from interviewing for the position to what issues sit at the forefront of his agenda.
12.2.10 Professor Herman Schwartz from the University of Virginia’s Woodrow Wilson Department of Politics joins Coy discuss a variety of current events. Among the issues addressed in the conversation are the extension of the middle class tax cuts, the fundamentals of unemployment insurance, and a whole lot more. UVA will celebrate the event with a special gallery at First Friday’s tomorrow night. The conversation covers Crozier’s career in the fine arts, from realizing the sciences were not for him to getting into teaching at the collegiate level. The bacteria in question is able to survive on arsenic, a substance poisonous to humans. While the breakthrough does not confirm the presence of extraterrestrial life, it does prove the existance of life forms which can thrive in ways atypical to life on Earth. Is Cuccinelli’s idea a breach of the 4th Amendment?
