Dayton Haugh talks about the future of the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad

cars16cDayton Haugh is the Chief of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad (CARS), a position he’s held since 1994. He joined Rick Moore on the May 24, 2009 edition of WNRN’s Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call to talk about operating the volunteer organization, which is one of the busiest of its kind in the country. Haugh talks about the challenges of working with more than one jurisdiction, and the CARS’ future as other localities seek EMS billing and other revenue-recovery techniques.

Former local heroes Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin dropped by Acoustic Sunrise this morning for an interview with Anne Williams at WNRN. They each played a couple of songs. They are playing tonight at the Gravity Lounge. They’ll head to the Little Grill in Harrisonburg tomorrow and will be in Blacksburg on Saturday. Videos will be up soon at youtube.com/WNRNradio.

Danny was just signed to Red House Records and will have a new album out on March 10, 2009.

Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle

On the September 28th edition of WNRN’s Sunday Morning Wake-Up Call, Rick Moore welcomes Beth Golden of Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle. The LVCA provides one-on-one, confidential tutoring in basic literacy and English as a second language to adults living or working in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. This is also pledge week at WNRN, and Rick speaks eloquently about the importance of community radio.
